About the Projects:
Adopt-a-Tree This project encourages you to take a closer look at a tree near you and learn more about it and its environment. You will describe it, measure it, draw it, and take pictures of it as you track the qualities of the tree, its bark, the birds and animals that live in or near it. Use the data worksheet to gather your information about your tree when you visit it. After your visit, record your findings here at this web site so that you can share them with everyone interested in the tree you have adopted.

Bud Burst Every spring, there's a moment when the buds of a tree or bush or flower burst open and announce that spring has arrived. Not only will you track this event, but also the rest of the cycle for a tree or plant from bud burst to leaf fall, its phenophases. You can share your observations here and also become a part of national project that is monitoring the evidence of climate conditions around the world.
Steps to getting started
Data Worksheet
Birdfeeder Watch Is there a birdfeeder outside your classroom or your school? Here's a way to track the kinds of birds that feed at it, share your observations with others, and even become a part of a national birdwatching project sponsored by Cornell Univeristy that tracks the presence and migration of birds across America.

Invasive Plant Species Using the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) PLANTS database, learn to identify and plot invasive plant species in your neighborhood. Report your findings here and learn how to identify what plant species are helpful to local wildlife. You can also contribute your pictures of invasive species plants to the national gallery of invasive plants and also contribute your data to the PLANTS Distribution Update system that helps the USDA track and record the distribution of invasive plants.
