Albert G. Prodell Middle School students have been examining a parcel of land thatjoins the school fields. The property is owned by the Town of Brookhaven.
Students went out into the field to collect soil samples. Once back in the classroom, the
seventh grade students searched the soil for microorganisms. The eighth grade students
conducted chemical tests on the soil. Students learned to use the LaMotte Kits to test for
nitrates, phosphate, potassium and pH.
The students will be going back into the field during the winter and spring seasons to
assess the changes that have taken place.
Our seventh graders plan to conduct water quality tests on the water in the Ridge Road
sump.
Students always take trash bags out when they visit their site and remove as much trash
as possible. |
